Remarks: | This legendary plane is ex. USAAF FY 44-86893 and was built in Kansas City in 1945. It was never used in active service as a bomber with USAAF, but after its first flight it was used briefly as an electronic test platform designated as ETB-25K and JTB-25K (BD-893). During 1957 and up until 1958 was stored at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ. It was then acquired on October 8, 1958 by A.B. Sellards / Abe's Aerial Service, Safford, AZ up until 1964 registered as N6123C. On May 1959 it was fitted with agricultural sprays and tanks and used as such. In 1965 it was acquired by Aircraft Specialties Inc, Mesa, AZ in order to fly as an airborne tanker for fire-fighting with Number C34. This appears that happened for a very short period as by 1969 and up until 1976 it was seen as WFU at Mesa, AZ. In 1977 another potential user acquired the plane this time John J. Stokes/Cen-Tex Aviation, San Marcos, TX which restored it to airworthy condition by 1984 this time taking the name “Fairfax Ghost" up until 1994. That year Sigi Angerer took this babe to his collection up until July 31, 1997 when it was finally acquired by Red Bull Aviation Inc, Las Vegas, NV. In 2001 it was operated by Siegfried Angrer, Salzburg, Austria. FAA database shows this as owned by Aircraft Guarantee Corp, TX. The picture was taken during ILA 2008 air-show. Special note: I conducted this small research from various internet pages in order to collect bits and pieces of data that appear here as a whole for the first time. Hope this will help more enthusiasts. |
